BiodanzaSRT exercises and dances call for us to really listen to our bodies. BiodanzaSRT does not judge an individual by his dance experience or ability. 'It is very important that people who move in all ways join us. BiodanzaSRT considers all movement as dance. In the stillness we are dancing.' BiodanzaSRT creates the space and understanding for people with all kinds of symptoms to be who they are in every way, with plenty of time for them to listen to their body and rest when they need to. BiodanzaSRT teaches ways any one can practice to help maintain and upgrade good health. As well as helping people cope with life changing events such as childbirth and parenting, over the years BiodanzaSRT has successfully helped hundreds of people to cope with different medical conditions, including difficulty regarding weight loss, ME (chronic fatigue), Arthritis, mental depression and anxiety. BiodanzaSRT also offers special classes for people with Parkinsons disease.
Biodanza For Weight Loss
Rather than offer a calorie restricted diet and a rigid exercise program that address the weight 'problem' and therefore only a part of us, BiodanzaSRT encourages people who want to lose weight to see themselves as a whole person. When a person comes to class and says that they want to lose weight 'here and there', the first questions I ask them is, 'what do you like about your whole body'? I then go on to help them realize that when they look at themselves as a whole picture, there is much to admire and that this perspective is a better point from which to start enhancing their shape and look. Rather than negate and disqualify parts of themselves that they do not like, I encourage them to look at themselves and others as a whole human being. BiodanzaSRT helps to make the body/mind/emotional connection with tenderness and pleasure and allows people to make dramatic and significant leaps in health.

ME (Chronic Fatigue)
It is not unusual for people with ME to experience dramatic
increases in vitality and energy when practising
BiodanzaSRT. 'I have had people arrive in class with
strength only to walk slowly. One participant arrived
complaining of barely been able to get out of bed. After
attending a few sessions he told me that the pleasure of
dancing 'his dance' really soothed his pain. I could see
that his pain gave way to the pleasure of moving
consciously, he did not want to miss this connection with
him self'.
Arthritis
As we experience the pleasure in moving, a strong
motivation to move takes place. The traditional
rehabilitation of patients suffering from many motor
function “disorders” such as Arthritis is synthetic. These
procedures address only the symptoms suffered by the
patient and include the
prescribing of strong painkillers and steroids etc.
BiodanzaSRT takes a holistic approach and during a session
the movements that the participants make come from an
instinctive drive, emotional need and natural tendency to
be well within them selves. The dances performed in
BiodanzaSRT come from
our natural every day movements and environment. Every
movement made, causes the dancer to feel a physical
sensation and this sensation evokes an emotion, which is in
turn followed by the next movement or action. Through
specific BiodanzaSRT exercises the dancer is able to
express a diversity of emotions consciously, combining in
this way action with emotion. For Example, the rhythmic
dances of BiodanzaSRT, encourages the participant to move
with tone and balance and evokes the emotion of humor,
overcoming the depressive state suffered by many people
with painful conditions. During the dance humour levels
increase and become constant. When a participant is unaware
of the connection between action and emotion, they risk
having little if any choice on how to move and behave in
healthy ways in their every day lives, with others and in
their environment. This disassociation is unconscious; the
BiodanzaSRT therapeutic effects come into play when the
association is made between action, emotion, the
individual, the other and the world. Finally, the
individual's contact with the whole group in class,
restores communication and strengthen the awareness of the
participant's own identity. The freedom to dance alone,
with one other and in a group and the capacity to express
oneself in meaning full and artistic ways increases
self-esteem and confidence.
